Republicans shouldn't despair about the polls. If the election was held tomorrow and McCain lost all they have to do is find a way to get it to the Supreme Court and come January the old guy will be getting sworn in. As for CEOs believing Obama would be disastrous, it isn't like CEO's have done wonders for the country. The headline should read, "74% of people who will make tens of millions of dollars a year even if they do a bad job think Obama will be a disaster." Why doesn't the Obama-loving media print that? Affirmative action, surely. Palin could have declared herself empress of alaska and the consort of god. but as long as she swears she'd let her raped daughter not abort and believes that Jesus is there in Iraq in spirit leading the holy war against Islam she'll have no shortage of people who worship the ground she walks on. He will be 31 as of the 24th of this month, which is not old by any means, but his having back surgery concerns me. From my experience, of "hearing" of those who have had back surgery, they have never been the same. Will this be the case with Furcal? Furcal' best season, as far as his OBP, is this year (.439), but he also only played in 36 regular season games prior to his sugery, with the most games played back in '06, in which he put up better than average numbers. But of course a healthy Furcal could match or enhance those numbers. The question is, at almost 31 years of age how long of a contract do you sign him to? No where in any part of my response did I argue that their attendance figures are low, or have dropped. I argued quite the opposite. I argued the fact that the Cubs attendance over the last few years has risen in large part because of the circus that going to a Cubs game has become. The college party like atmosphere that has been created in the neighborhood and mostly in the stands. The fact that if they didnt sell alcohol at the game or on the rooftops, attendance would fall drastically. I'd have to say that the relief failed due to a couple factors. One, they didn't have much help from the starters. The starters only averaged 6 innings per start. That's average mind you. That means there were several times they didn't make it to 6. You put that much pressure, wear, and tear on the BP and it will hurt over the long haul. Second, we don't have the best talent in the world in our BP. There were plenty of individual failures. Third, not having a "closer" (I hate that moniker), didn't help the stability of the BP. I'd give the bullpen an overall score of F. *** I'd give most teams in the league bad scores for pitching starters, or relievers. I just can't seem to accept the notion that a starter is considered having a good start if they go 6 innings. Relief pitching seems to be a widespread hit or miss throughout the leagues. In my opinion, a starter should go 7 minimum. I'm not saying that they should go CG like they used to, but there is a certain laziness that has crept into pitchers over the decades. A setup man, and "closer" (yuk), is all you should need in any given game. So, take my pitching grades with a grain of salt. :wink: I'm biased towards the past. [6 total replies]

Luddy- A ( A+ if he wasn't so streaky) Skip- B (would without a doubt be an A if he could hit lefties better) Ankiel- C+- Dude has got to stay healthy Duncan- Yeah, I bet ya'll were betting I'd give him an F but I give him and Incomplete for the overall season but if we are grading defense he gets an F. He has not improved AT ALL and has got to be one of the worst we've seen. Barton- Incomplete I want to see him after a full year in AAA or have TLR give him more chances if he is here. Mather- C .....still young but showed he can play defense, has got to learn those breaking pitches better. Stavi- D......I don't know if he's ready for the ML's but he didn't show me a whole lot after doing pretty good in AAA. I hope nobody expects me to grade FeLo, Miles and Kennedy in the OF :wink: [8 total replies]

Don't get me wrong. I wish that Carpenter would come back and become the ace he was during one of his seasons. I just don't see it happening. I'd rather see them stop wasting time on these "get fixed quick" schemes and start picking up healthy pitchers that can contribute for 6 innings plus a game. [96 total replies]
