he can still go to classes in the offseason. Hades...as much of a prospect he is...if he needed to go to classes during the season...for finals or something...go do it. (would mainly be April and May...I could live with that and have him start the season in June)
I know...but with all the talk of this kids intelligence...take some advanced classes and he could easily graduate in 3 years. |
You're still not getting it. Schools like Stanford don't have part-time undergraduate programs that give you 10 years to graduate.
The suggestion in the quote above is saying he should just basically play baseball for Stanford and get drafted in a much higher position after three years. Except it will take four years - it's doubtful he's more intelligent than everyone else at Stanford.
You can postpone entry for like a year, but after that you have to reapply all over again and the odds are against getting accepted.

Undergraduates normally are expected to plan their academic programs so that they can complete 180 units in four years (twelve quarters), including the requirements for a major and the General Education, Writing and Rhetoric, and Language Requirements. Satisfactory academic progress is, on average, 45 units per academic year for four years leading to at least 180 units, a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, and a baccalaureate degree.
While undergraduates are expected to register for a minimum of 12 units, they are required to complete at least 9 units each quarter (by the end of the final exam period) and at least 36 units in their most recent three quarters of Stanford enrollment (by the end of the third final exam period). In addition, students are expected to maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0. Transfer work completed at other institutions is not considered in this calculation.
A student earning fewer than 9 units per quarter or fewer than 36 units in three quarters, or earning less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, is placed on probation. |

Dennis Martinez never played for the Dodgers but he is the same Dennis Martinez that played for 4 or 5 teams from '76-'98. You might be thinking of Ramon Martinez (Pedro's brother).
I don't think we can't sign our draft picks that are still actively playing for their respective teams (Blair and Swagerty). Cox just wrapped up his season and he is an overslot sign so it might be very close, if not on, the Aug 15th signing deadline. Jenkins will sign for a little overslot IMO but he might sign a bit earlier. But usually anyone signing overslot signs late in the process due to negotiations going right up to the last day and MLB frowning on overslot signings (which I think is stupid). _________________ St. Louis Cardinal Fan for Life. |

Breezing through the list, I saw Andrew listed on the page and was wondering if they were father-son. This organization has always had a strong tie to that family, who produced well for us in the 1990's. Having brothers in the same rotation was always a neat baseball experience. |

here's hoping we can sign him and our 1st 3 picks as well.
Cox, Jenkins and Blair.
Those three would be really nice in our minor league system and the 1st pieces to rebuilding the system to go along with Shelby |

In that case it's a lost cause unless the Cardinals have lots of college girls in residence around Busch Stadium whom I'm not aware of. _________________ Sometimes the Best Trades are the Ones You Don't Make |

Strauss in his chat today on STLToday.com answered this question. First I have heard about Jenkins in awhile. This is good news:
| Quote: |
danandjonelle: I have been told that high school pitcher Tyrell Jenkins, one of our supplemental draft choices, was in St. Louis yesterday for a physical and I assume his signing is imminent. Since he is also a Baylor football/baseball recruit, do you think he will get more than slot money, which is $705,600.?
Joe Strauss: Jenkins would likely command more than slot. The Cardinals are believed close to signing two of their three high pitching picks, Seth Blair and Jenkins. |

Where did you hear this? Not that I doubt you because its been said that Blair is close for the past week but just curious. Appears Jenkins was at the park earlier in the week...wonder if they are waiting to announce until both are finalized? _________________ St. Louis Cardinal Fan for Life. |

Should have known it was Rains! He is always all over this stuff. Assuming we get him and Jenkins done as reported and anticipated soon we then wait 2 more weeks to get an understanding how the Wilson and Cox negotiations are going. _________________ St. Louis Cardinal Fan for Life. |

Blair signed for slot at $751,500 and will go to Batavia. 4 more major players still to go. I would guess that Swagerty and Jenkins get done in the next week and then Cox and Wilson go to the deadline. _________________ St. Louis Cardinal Fan for Life. |
