Im indifferent on this. I guess as long as the Cards dont give up anything it is worth a try. Maybe a fungo bat or a bucket of sunflower seeds.

An ERA over 5 this year (Career 4.40). Rolling Eyes
Who knows ... we'll see.

Every talking head that I have heard has said the Cards are looking for an innings eater.

I figured they might want to try and find a good pitcher.

Definitely could get behind that pick up. Locked into an affordable deal and is a high GB pitcher who could potentially thrive in our pitch to contact scheme. Either him or Jake Westbrook I'd have no problem with either one.

issue is...there's no one out there.

Unless you are willing to take on salary and trade a Shelby Miller, the only viable minor league prospect the Cards have (unless the Cards would part with Rasmus, then maybe you're spared dealing Miller)

Cards are gonna have to go the waiver wire in August to see if someone tries to sneak someone through and then make a bid on them.

Same issue with a bat...a lot of teams are not parting with it because while w may scratch our heads regarding the prospects they get back...a lot of those teams are getting the other team to take on salary.

The bats that are out there...Hawpe, Dunn, etc...we already have people there and the Orioles want a TON for Wiggington. Not a viable or feasible fit.

Plus we don't know what the Cards have tried to do and what they were told it would take.

To defend Cook....he's been asked to be a #1/#2 when he's a #3/#4. Plays in Cooers.

Extreme sinkerballer. He reminds me a lot of Woody Williams. Williams worked out pretty well when he came over from San Diego.

He's not a "WOW" guy...but he's a pretty solid and dependable pitcher. Cook is better than Hawksworth or Suppan...so think of that.

I think that says it all. Carp, Waino, and Garcia have been reliable, but we need a better option after them. Obviously, we'd love to have another top of the rotation guy, but that's not realistic right now.

THAT would be a serious gamble. That'd be like going all in with deuce-trey. I think the opponent would be holdin' pocket rockets and we'd be busted out.

I think the Big Z's best years are well behind him. His velocity is down and he cannot control his emotions on the mound. The only way the Cubs are going to unload him is if they eat at least 3/4 of his salary. That's a lot of dough.

I could also see the Cubs maybe converting him to a hitter (1B) if he continues to struggle getting back his pitching

Really, that's probably their only option at this point. Zambrano can hit a ton.

We did it with Ankiel. I mean, Ank wasn't a COMPLETE bust. He had a decent end of '07 and a respectable '08.

You'd be paying him 18 mil/per to ride the pines while Lee plays on the hope that he could start next year while never having the opportunity to go back to the minors and learn the position like Ankiel did. Will never, ever happen. They would release him, or trade him for a bag of peanuts and a little salary relief first.

I still don't understand why they wouldn't be more inclined to bring in Jarrod Washburn out of Free Agency.

one rumor I've heard is Washburn may be thinking of calling it a career because of his knee. That's the reason given for his really bad year after being traded to Detroit...that his knee is in really bad shape
