YNOT in a Nutshell

Put simply, YNOT is a game based around predicting the future. Players participate in YNOT games by completing Scorecards, which are composed of a set of questions surrounding a specific topic or future event. The Scorecards are gathered until the event takes place, after which the results are tallied. Correct predictions are rewarded with points. Players are ranked by point total and the player with the highest point total for a particular game is declared the winner.

Similarly themed Games are grouped into Leagues. As with Games, Leagues track player ranking and a variety of other fun statistics, but across all Games contained in that League. As CCH is a baseball-oriented site, baseball will be a frequent and favorite YNOT topic, though you may find a variety of other topics covered, such as other popular sports, favorite television shows, and even current events.

How to Play

While all visitors may browse the Leagues and Games freely, to participate you must be a registered member of CardsClubhouse.com and must be logged in. There is no membership or obligation associated with a League, so you may play as many or as few Games as you please.

  1. Select a League

Review the main YNOT page to see what leagues are "open" and available to play. You should see a League title and description, as well as information on how many open games there are, how many total games are in the league thus far, and how many players are participating in the league. Click the League's title to select it.

  2. Select a Game

Upon choosing a League, you will be taken to the League Summary, which lists all Open Games, a handful of Recent Games, and, if a game has already been played, the League Standings. Check the Status column under Open Games to see which Games are available for immediate play. Click a Game's title to select it.

  3. Complete a Scorecard

Assuming you are filling out your Scorecard for the first time, you should see a "Complete Your Scorecard" button at the bottom of the Game Summary page. Clicking the button will open your Scorecard for editing. The Scorecard contains a series of questions with multiple choice and numeric answers. You must answer all questions for your Scorecard to be valid. Save your Scorecard by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.

If you Scorecard was not completed correctly, the page will refresh and list what questions need attention. Once you have successfully saved your Scorecard, you may complete Scorecards for any other open games. You may also return and modify your Scorecard at any time up until the time the Game closes.

  4. Check the Results

After the real-world event occurs, the League Managers are responsible for collecting and entering the answers into the system for processing. As soon as the results have been calculated they are posted to the Game Summary page, along with a variety of interesting statistics on all players' performances. In addition, you will be able to revisit the questions and see the correct answers for anything you missed. Be sure to also check the updated League Statistics, especially if one or more Games have already been completed.
The History of YNOT

YNOT originated several years on Baseballboards.com (presently known as Fanhome) as an unofficial game created by one of the fans on the Montreal message board. The fan's handle was "YNOT Us" - a name we decided to pay homage to here at CardsClubhouse. One of YNOT's original players, a fan by the name of Cardinal70, expanded the game to the Cards message board on Fanhome with his own Cardinals version.

Lucky for us, Cardinal70 happened upon CardsClubhouse in late 2002, introduced the game to our growing community, and we've never looked back. By the middle of the 2003 baseball season, CCH administrator Roark1138 had played enough YNOT games to be hooked. A web developer by trade, Roark1138, with the assistance of fellow web developers, turned YNOT into an original, database-driven web application.

The result is a virtually autonomous YNOT system that collects player answers and automatically calculates the results, generates detailed statistics, and tracks virtually every aspect of the league. Only at CardsClubhouse.com!
